Schlumbergera truncata
Thanksgiving Cactus
This seed is the result of different crosses. Peach onto reds and pinks and vice versa. I've never succeeded in selfing a Thanksgiving cactus, pollinating one flower from another on the same plant. Pollinating from a completely different plant does work and I would say 98% of the time, from my experience.
I have succeeded in germinating this seed, 90 days. 100% germinated.
I placed the seed on moistened coir and put in a closed environment. I like to use the plastic salad containers that have a fairly tight fitting lid. Put it on the shelf, out of direct light, and waited.
Getting your Thanksgiving, Easter, or Christmas cacti to reliably rebloom is quite easy, keep them in a cool area for a couple of months. Mine live in my unheated plant room and bloom for months over the winter. Water regularly.

Sedum kamtschaticum 'variegatum'
Russian Stonecrop
I've found that most sedum are outstanding garden plants in colder zones. They don't skip a beat when faced with mid-summer snow storms or chilly night temps. They appear to be passed over by deer and moose as well.

Stachys byzantina - Lamb's Ear
This is on the deer resistant list. Soft fuzzy grey green leaves form a rosette with spikes of pinkish blooms. Tough plant, drought resistant as well.
This has always been on my favorite list. The foliage is so very soft and the scent that is released upon touching the foliage is wonderful. Old cottage garden plant that should be in every garden.

Symphytum officinale - Comfrey
Sold Out
Common comfrey, ass-ear, consound, healing herb, knitback, knitbone, or slippery root. Wow! I haven't tried comfrey medicinally yet, haven't had the need and am not willing to dig the root yet. Maybe next year. Making a tea with the root is supposed to help heal receeding gums. There are also precautions, so do your research.
I love the blooms, and so do pollinators. Watching fat bumble bees trying to get in to the flowers is very amusing to me.
